About Adele

Adele Loux-Turner is a yoga teacher who specializes in prenatal, postpartum, and embodied developmental movement.  She is also a labor doula, dancer, and infant movement educator.

Adele has been a mover all her life.  She grew up as a ballet dancer in a regional company in Rhode Island.   At American Dance Festival in 1997, she took a six week course called "yoga for dancers," because she wanted to improve her flexibility.  By the end of the course she had gone from tolerating yoga to wanting to be a yoga teacher herself.

After graduating Purchase Conservatory of Dance in 2001, Adele completed her yoga teacher certification at Integral Yoga Institute in Manhattan the same year.  She has since completed specialty certifications for prenatal yoga (New York Yoga),  yoga for labor and delivery and postpartum yoga (Integral Yoga), and children’s yoga (Karma Kids).

Adele's prenatal yoga training and experience with mothers led her to a new passion-- she learned of the shortcomings in our medical system surrounding the care of birthing women.  Adele trained as a labor doula through DONA International in 2008 as a way of furthering her support of the mother-friendly childbirth movement.  Adele has seen hundreds of women through their pregnancies as their yoga instructor, and she continues to work with some of them as a labor doula.   She joined the Carriage House Birth collective in 2013 to become more active in the doula community.

Adele completed a 2 year program of training at the Breathing Project in 2011:  a cycle of 20 cross-discipline somatic movement workshops taught by Amy Matthews.  She furthered her studies with Amy, completing a certificate in Embodied Developmental Movement and Yoga through the School for Body-Mind Centering®, where she continues to pursue certifications as a Somatic Movement Educator and Infant Developmental Movement Educator.

Still active in the dance community, Adele has continued to train in Cecchetti- based ballet technique with Janet Panetta since 1999, an influence that is very alive in her understanding of the body moving and how to teach.  She has taught children’s and professional-level dance classes and currently performs with several independent choreographers.
